Results of the Elkhart County Leaf Collection Competition
At this time, we do not know the outcome of the Elkhart County Leaf Collection contest. As you may know we encouraged lake residents to contact James Wyly of SmokelessLeafs who was one of the contestants. Last year he finished sixth but got a portion of the $50,000 prize money. Last year he collected leaves from just 6 people around the lake. This year he had 76 people! This was both good and bad. At the end of the contest, December 20 he thought he was in 2nd place. But the amount of work took a toll on his equipment, and he was out of service for three weeks working only by hand.
Still, he kept on and was cleaning up his final piles of leaves working until after dark on that last day.
We did not do an official test of the air quality at the lake, but it sure did feel like there were a lot less days when that gray cloud of leaf smoke covered the lake.
